What you'll learn in this watercolor class:

Have fun learning to produce vibrant, colorful and unique sketch/drawings using watercolor pencils. Experience a new technique each week, and engage in the sharing and discussion of your artwork with fellow students. Dry pencils/wet pencils, layering of color, creating color, shading, sketching, washing, lifting, lighting and composition will be part of our weekly class.

Recommended Supply List

  • Set of watercolor pencils--Derwent, Caran D'ache, Faber Castell are great brands.
  • 1 small Watercolor paper pad, 140 lb. cold press or hot press, 9" x 12" or smaller is fine
  • H Drawing pencil(s)
  • A few small/med. watercolor brushes - Natural Synthetics work fine for this Media
  • kneaded eraser
  • small hand pencil sharpener
  • 2 or 3 plastic cup containers
  • 1 black permanent ink pen: Le Pen Drawing, Micron Pigma, Sharpie Ultra Fine pt.work well

  • This interactive online class is presented via Zoom. Please download Zoom (www.zoom.us), and register your email address prior to your first class. 
  • You will be emailed Zoom meeting instructions, including a unique URL and meeting code to join the class at least 1 day before the start of the class. 
  • Review the supply list posted. 
  • Students are responsible for purchasing all necessary supplies.
    Classes that do not meet enrollment minimums will be cancelled three days prior to the start of the class. 

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Refund Policy
Tuition is refundable for Adult and YFA (Youth Fine Arts) classes, minus a processing fee for each class dropped, only if the EAC Registrar is notified by or on the next working day after the first class has met. Workshop fees (minus a processing fee) are refundable up until one week prior to the program. 

If the Director of IT and Administration is notified at least one week prior to the scheduled start date, a processing fee of $50 is charged for dropping adult classes, YFA classes, or workshops costing $100 or more or a $25 processing fee is charged for dropping programs costing under $100. 

A processing fee equal to 50% of the tuition is charged for adult or YFA classes and camps that are dropped during the period from six days before the first class meets and the next working day after the first class has met (workshop fees are not refundable during this period). Please refer to the chart below. 

Students are responsible for notifying the Art Center Director of IT and Administration that they wish to drop a class or workshop; not attending class does not constitute an official withdrawal from courses or cancellation of tuition or fees. If you must drop a class or workshop after the deadline, no refunds will be given. 

There is no deferred, reduced or pro-rated tuition. Membership is non-refundable. There are no exceptions to the Evanston Art Center refund policy.

*The first session is defined as the first day a class or workshop meets (not the first class or workshop attended).  

**To avoid paying the processing fee, students may elect to receive a full tuition credit for classes or workshops dropped seven days or more before the first session. Tuition credit will expire one year from the date the class or workshop is dropped and must be used in full for EAC class and/or workshop tuition. After the credit is redeemed, no further refund options will be available. 

Tuition credits are not redeemable for cash under any circumstances. Credits may be transferred to another individual only with written notice.
