Class Description

Description

What you'll learn in this beginner sewing class:

Have you always wanted to learn how to sew but afraid to touch a sewing machine? Or wonder why your hungry sewing machine keeps eating your projects and jamming? Let me help you get started and make you feel comfortable using a sewing machine while teaching you the basics!

In this class you will be making a 16" pillow cover with a zipper!

Sewing is a learning-by-doing type of activity, and each day of this three part series will build on each other. By the end of this series you will be comfortable using a sewing machine, be able to choose the appropriate techniques and materials for a project, and will know how to manipulate fabric into fun and/or practical item for personal use. You can say I made it every day of the week!

We will explore and create
:
  • Parts of the sewing machine including various stitches, accompanying pressure and tension, and how to change your presser foot
  • How to thread your sewing machine and wind your bobbin
  • Seam allowances
  • Seam finishes and hems
  • Sewing and drafting darts with transfer paper and a tracing wheel
  • Installing zippers
  • How to layout and cut your fabric with a pattern
  • How to pin your pattern and fabric together correctly
  • Intro to reading commercial patterns
By the end of class, not only will you have a cute pillow cover to take home with you that you made yourself, but you will know some sewing basics that you can start your own projects with!!

The school will provide
  • Expert instructions
  • Sewing machines
