What you'll learn in this gardening class:

Create your own flourishing indoor herbal garden and get a head start on your spring gardening. Find out how to seed, propagate, and care for herbs in your home and build a self-watering planter. Herbs are not only an aromatic delight to grow, but they are wonderfully useful in adding flavor and nourishment to recipes. Prepare herbal salt and find how to preserve the herbs you grow. You are invited to participate by planting and cooking along, but this is entirely optional. If you would like to join by following the demonstrations, please gather the materials listed below. Otherwise, all you will need is a notebook and pen.

  1. Planting materials include seeds such as basil, parsley, or cilantro, potting soil, and a small to medium-sized planter pot or recycled materials like a yogurt container.
  2. Self-watering planter materials include a plastic water bottle, scissors, push-pin or hammer and nail, one strip of fabric or thick string, and 2-5 green onions.
  3. Herbal salt materials include two cups of kosher salt, one cup of fresh herbs, and one garlic clove.

Gather your family members for this interactive and fun start to early spring gardening that you can later transplant outdoors.
