Ingrid Durham

Teaches at Peterson Garden Project

A latch-key kid from the north side of Chicago, Ingrid (Schubert) Durham started cooking at an early age. At eight years old, she would walk home during the school lunch hour and make lunch for her seven year old sister and herself. Her favorite thing to do was bake. During the summer when she turned ten, she learned to bake bread from a baker at Burny Bros. Twenty-three years later, laid off from the computer industry and still filled with a love of baking, Ingrid was asked if she wanted to bake muffins in a friend's frozen yogurt shop. A year later, Ingrid received her Certificate in Pastry Arts from the College of DuPage. She spent some time as a pastry cook in an upscale gourmet shop, but mostly uses her education for personal use. Ingrid volunteers her time by occasionally teaching German cooking and baking at the DANK Haus German American Cultural Center on the city's north side.
