Description

Average Class Size: 10
Teacher: Susan Barth

What you'll learn in this wax carving class:

Students attending this class will learn to carve wax using files and burs, how to apply heat to build up or add design elements to your wax model, and finishing techniques to obtain a clean casting.

This class is for beginner and returning students. Working in wax offers jewelry students the necessary skills and tools to create jewelry with a sculptural feel. Susan works with students individually to develop projects that will lead them through this organic process. Possible projects include bands, drop & stud earrings, pendants. Simple clasps and connections, hinges, or stone setting can be incorporated into returning students’ designs.

The instructor will let students know where to take their wax models to be cast and once their metal piece is brought back to class students will be instructed on the techniques used for finishing it so it's ready to wear.
