Have you ever wondered what it is like to light a torch, set a flame, run a bead? In this session you will learn to braze. You will create a small unique sculpture to take home.It can be used to display jewelry, or hold a candle. The options are endless. We will discuss the many advantages of gas welding when setting up a shop, creating furniture, art, fabrication. etc. What makes this Course unique is that it is taught by an artist who has...
What makes this Course Unique is that is is taught by an artist who has experience teaching both sculptors and welders. She is a Part-Time Associate Professor at Parsons School of Design, teaching Metal Fabrication. This class is an empowering experience for both beginners as well as people who have experienced welding in the past. The class is also unique because it will be "limited to 2 people". You will receive individual help. The Studio has a wall of open windows for excellent ventilation.
Oxy-acetylene welding has many advantages. It is portable, and is not expensive to set up. You can use it along with Brazing to combine metals. It is often interchangeable with Tig and is a much less expensive method.
Steel welding with a steel filler rod will be the focus of this class. It is suggested that you take the Brazing class first. That way you will be able to put together most metals with a torch. This class will also prepare you for Tig Welding.
WHAT TO WEAR: Wear closed toe leather or suede shoes and cotton socks. Do not wear clothes you care about. Cotton jeans are best. Bring a long sleeved sweat shirt and wear a long sleeved cotton shirt. Welding gear and glovesare supplied and included with session. There is no fee for metal.
