What you'll learn in this watercolor class:
This workshop is all about challenging ourselves to go beyond our boundaries in watercolor. Renowned painting teacher and award-winning watercolor artist Mel Stabin will encourage us to experience the magical, spontaneous, and transparent qualities of watercolor and help us discover that watercolor is at its best when it’s set free. Emphasis will be placed on gaining more confidence by simplifying our approach to subject matter and painting with energy and focus. Mel will demonstrate his loose, representational style, discuss principles of design and composition, show us how to capture the essence of a subject, but above all guide us with personal attention and one-on-one instruction while we paint, helping us hone our clarity of thought and emotion, so we can bring more transparency and vitality to our paintings. A constructive critique of our work will be offered at the day’s end. Mel always welcomes questions and creates a casual, friendly, supportive atmosphere.
Notes:
This workshop of painting landscapes and people in landscapes is designed for artists at all levels, from beginners to advanced. A list of supplies will be given at the point of registration, which includes such things as: paper: a board, palette, recommended paints, and brushes.

For Single Evening Events, Series, Half-Days and Mini-Workshops, Walking Tours, Single-Event Webinars or O’Cast™ Recordings, there are no refunds or course credits for these offerings.
For Full Workshops, Ongoing Courses and Webinars and Online Courses:
- Refunds are available minus a processing fee* if you cancel up to 11 business days prior to the first day of the program.
- Course credits are available, minus a processing fee* if you cancel up to 3 business days prior to the first day of the program.
*The processing fee for cancellation is $15 for programs costing less than $250, and $35 for programs costing $250 and up.
No refunds or credits will be given for cancellations less than 3 business days prior to the first day of a program, or if a student does not attend a program. The estimated refund processing time is two to three weeks.

The teacher was great--I learned so much.
The Open Center was not the best for a painting class. They were unprepared for the number of students, didn't have water or sink in the room so we had to keep walking to the bathroom to swap out painting water, and they had this weird mirror setup instead of just an easel for the artist. They literally did not have an easel in the building. For an art class! When each issue was brought up, the Open Center staff was really uncaring about it, basically just standing there while students figured it out--weird!!
Would definitely do a class with this teacher again, but probably not at Open Center.

There were too many people in the class and the teacher was late, so little to no instruction. Wrong class for me since I was the only beginner in the group. everyone else was quite advanced.
The teacher was very nice( i learned he is well known) however, i needed to learn how to hold the brush. There should be some classification when these courses are offered. Ie. beginner, intermediate, advanced.
