Jenia Fridlyand, Raymond Meeks & Tim Carpenter

Jenia Fridlyand (Moscow, 1975) is a photographer and educator based in New York City and the Hudson Valley.  Her photographs and books have been exhibited in the United States and abroad. The self-published edition of Fridlyand’s book Entrance to Our Valley was shortlisted for the Paris Photo - Aperture First Photobook Award 2017, and a trade edition (TIS Books) is in production. Fridlyand is a co-founder of Image Threads Collective, a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring together artists, educators, and bookmakers in communities around the world for a mutual exchange of ideas and experiences. Image Threads’ efforts include organizing workshops and teaching workshops, collecting donations for libraries, setting up reading rooms, and promoting emerging photobook makers. Fridlyand studied photography at Centre Iris and Université Paris VIII, and holds an MFA from the University of Hartford’s International Limited-Residency program.

RAYMOND MEEKS (Ohio, 1963) has been recognized for his books and pictures centered on family and place.  In November 2014, a mid-career retrospective of his books was organized by Light Work in Syracuse, NY.  The exhibition featured more than twenty books, including self-published works and numerous volumes from a variety of publishers.   In 2011, Meeks and publisher Kevin Messina (Silas Finch) co-founded Orchard Journal, which was established as a collaborative conversation between artist, subject and viewer.  Featured artists have included Wes Mill, Deborah Luster and Mark Steinmetz.Ray is currently at work on a new set of Journals under the title Dumbsaint, to be published by TIS Books.  Vol. 1, Township(Sept 2017), is in collaboration with Tim Carpenter and Adrianna Ault, guest edited and with a short story by Brad Zellar.  Meeks is a 2016 recipient of the Siskind Fellowship Grant. His book Halfstory Halflife (chose commune, 2018) was a finalist for the Paris Photo/Aperture Photobook of the Year Award.

TIM CARPTENTER (Illinois, 1968) is a photographer and writer who works in Brooklyn and central Illinois. He received an MFA in Photography from the Hartford Art School in 2012, and later that year co-founded TIS books (tisbooks.pub), an independent photobook publisher. His books include Local objects (The Ice Plant, 2017; Kassel Photobook Award 2018, MoMA exhibition “American Surfaces and the Photobook”); township and Bement grain (TIS/Dumbsaint, 2017; Kassel Photobook Award 2018); A house and a tree (TIS books, 2016); The king of the birds (TIS books, 2017); and Still feel gone (Deadbeat Club Press, 2018)
