Dr. Pete Girguis leads a deep sea expedition of the coast of Southern California. His work is aimed at developing new technologies that are suitable for studying the gigantic oceans at the far reaches of the solar system. When he is not sending ROVs to the bottom of the ocean, Pete enjoys staging elaborate lab photos recreating movie posters with members of his lab.

Sarah McAnulty is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Connecticut studying the Hawaiian bobtail squid’s partnership with bacteria. She also founded the science communication non-profit Skype a Scientist, which matches classrooms with scientists around the world for q&a sessions. When she’s not in lab, she spends her time tweeting in all capital letters or changing the lyrics of popular songs to be about squid.

Rachel Bouton is the events manager at Science Friday, where she spends most of her time trying to figure out how to sneak live cephalopods into bars and writing trivia questions about old-timey medical procedures. When she isn’t scouting venues, writing scripts, or drafting show flows, Rachel is probably obsessively checking on her plants. She is very into her plants.
