Elizabeth Hira and Danny Sharron

Teaches at Caveat

Elizabeth Hira is a social justice lawyer specializing in gender equity and ultimately, equality. Most recently, she served on Kamala Harris’s legislative team in the U.S. Senate, focusing on civil rights and the federal judiciary. She has advised the Center for Reproductive Rights on legal and policy strategy to advance reproductive rights over the long term, and as an Associate at Civitas Public Affairs Group in New York, she supported strategic advocacy to abolish the death penalty nationally, forward LGBT non-discrimination policies at the state and federal level, combat discriminatory religious exemptions, and advance reproductive justice. During law school, Elizabeth worked to protect civil liberties with the Brennan Center for Justice, to ensure child labor prohibitions in World Bank projects for Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), and advocated for women’s rights internationally in South Africa and Uganda. Originally from the Caribbean, Elizabeth holds a J.D. from Georgetown Law and a B.A. with honors in history from Stanford University.

Danny Sharron is a Brooklyn-based theater director with a focus on developing new plays. He is committed to creating work about the LGBTQ+ experience and providing a platform from which the voices of that community can be heard. Danny most recently directed the world-premiere of Jason Kim’s The Model American at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, and an environmental production of Taylor Mac’s OKAY with his theater company, UglyRhino. He has developed and directed work with The Public Theater, New York Theatre Workshop, Roundabout Theatre Company, Berkeley Repertory Theatre, Ars Nova, Labyrinth, Ma-Yi, and Primary Stages. Danny is a recipient of New York Theatre Workshop’s 2050 Fellowship, Williamstown’s Bill Foeller Fellowship, and the Drama League’s New York Fellowship.
The Talks Progress Administration is a mad science experiment on stage – we’re pairing academic lecturers with theater directors to see what they’ll make together. The TPA is combining intellectual entertainment, creative discourse, and interactive storytelling like you’ve never seen before.

What would happen if Bill Nye got cast in Sleep No More, if Jane Goodall sat down for tea with Brecht, or if Stephen Hawking wrote a new Hamilton-inspired rock opera? We don’t know, but we sure as hell can’t wait to find out.
The TPA is a collaboration between The Story Collider and Caveat, and is supported by Science Sandbox, a Simons Foundation initiative dedicated to engaging everyone with the process of science.
