Class Description

Description

Discover why oil paint is actually one of the easiest and most forgiving painting mediums available, and explore the fundamental concepts of color, value, and composition in depth. This course provides comprehensive instruction in this classic medium.

Perfect for those brand new to oil painting, returning to painting after a break, or experienced artists looking to add oils to their creative repertoire and skill set.

You will explore key topics, including proper studio materials and setup, color mixing theory and practice, essential brush techniques, layering methods for depth and texture, and measuring techniques for accurate proportions. Throughout the course, you will work from photographs, developing skills in loose, realistic painting styles that emphasize artistic expression.

Students will complete and take home a finished painting created using a photograph reference of their choice, demonstrating practical competency in oil painting techniques.

  • Intro to Oil Painting (Level 1)

I thought the course was very beneficial for me. Starting with preparing the canvas to using a photograph for the painting, to color selection and color mixes I have learned a lot from our instructor. Our instructor was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. She gave us several tips to paint better. I would recommend this course to anyone who is a beginner in oil painting.
