Class Description

Description

Learn to create distinctive and personal paintings while working directly from a live model. This studio class explores both technical and theoretical dimensions of creating original artworks. Throughout the semester, there's a balanced emphasis on portraiture and figure painting from the nude model, allowing you to develop your individual artistic voice. You'll be encouraged to leverage composition, color theory, representational space, historical references, and contemporary context to shape your unique visual language.

The class includes slide presentations showcasing various approaches to figure painting in the contemporary art world, along with individual instruction at your easel. Lectures and demonstrations cover essential topics, including the stages of developing a painting, comparative measuring techniques, proportion, composition, and contemporary applications of these principles. This class is open to artists of all experience levels.
