Discover the art of transforming natural materials into vibrant colors in this immersive workshop. Explore the techniques and sustainability aspects of botanical dyeing while creating your own unique pieces. Join us at Studio 45 for an unforgettable hands-on experience.
During this two-hour Botanical dyeing class, students will acquire knowledge about the natural dye process through presentations, demonstrations, and practical application. Topics covered include fabric preparation techniques like scouring, tannin treatment, and mordanting, as well as pigment modification for achieving diverse color shades. Students will have the chance to explore color using carefully selected materials such as dried flowers, pigments, and produce.
This course equips participants with techniques and skills to independently practice the craft, which can be applied to their artwork, home goods, or garments, with a focus on fostering a more sustainable approach. The presentation will also delve into material sourcing, the intricacies of the technique, and showcase contemporary artists who work with natural dyes as a source of inspiration. Students can choose between dyeing a set of four napkins or a bandana and tote bag.
All necessary materials will be provided for this in-person class, and an email containing a list of optional/additional supplies and resources will be sent after the workshop.
