Description

What you'll learn in this sewing class:

This intensive training course teaches you to operate and use sewing equipment, tools and construction techniques. 

The program includes instruction and ‘hands on’ experience in all aspects of apparel construction. You will also need to understand and solve fitting and pattern problems, learn and experiment with specialty fabrics.

Graduates of this program may be employed in the apparel industry or may choose to work for her/himself. 

Graduates may specialize in performing alterations, garment repair or custom tailoring for women's garments, such as dresses, blouses or pants 

Course Outline:
  • Learn various seams and seam finishes
  • Learn to make darts, gathers, pleats and tucks
  • Learn to insert piping and attach binding
  • Learn ruffles and flounces
  • Learn various pockets
  • Learn to finish armholes and set in sleeves
  • Learn various necklines and collars
  • Learn dress and skirt zipper insertions
  • Learn buttonholes
  • Learn various closures
  • Learn proper cutting, construction, pressing and finishing techniques
  • Learn about personalized fit from commercial patterns
  • Learn to alter the fit of ready-to-wear

Pre-requisites: 
  • Some sewing experience using a sewing machine and commercial patterns is a plus. 
  • If no experience, then students are required to take either Sew Simple Class or Learn to Sew in A Day Class.
Important Things to Note: 
  • Fabric yardage for monthly final projects will be discussed in class.
  • Qualified students upon completing this course and all assignments, will receive a certificate of completion to be used as recognition of professional training in the field. 
  • Placement assistance for help landing internships, temp, freelance, or permanent job positions is also given. Or, if starting a business, receive business advice to help you achieve success.

Q: Can I make up a class if I miss one?
A: 
No, but you will have time to catch up with the teacher. The school encourages students to not miss a class if possible, however upon your return to class the teacher will give a new lecture, and after students are doing classwork they will go over the previous missed lesson with you.If you need more time, you'll have the option to book a private lesson with the instructor to further go over what was missed.

A: No

Q: Can I take home what I make in this class?
A: Yes

Q: Are the materials provided in the cost of the class? 
A: No, students will have to get their own fabrics and supplies.

Materials you need to bring to class :
  • Muslin fabric
  • fabric scraps of various types (i.e. silk, velvet, wool, taffeta, linen etc., at least 1/4yd each)
  • Measuring tape
  • Fabric scissors
  • Paper cutting Scissors
  • Thread

Q: Is there anything else I should be aware of to be prepared for class?
A: Yes, bring a notebook and pen for taking notes.

Refund Policy

There will be no reduction of fees or full or partial refund for absence, late arrival, late registration, withdrawal or dismissal.

Cancellations by Us

If a course is cancelled or postponed by the school, you will be notified as quickly as possible. You will be given the opportunity to either use the credit for a later start time or transfer to another course. Otherwise, the full cost of your fees will be refunded to you within four weeks, under normal conditions. We shall not be liable for any other consequential loss.

Cancellations by You

​Upon completing registration and enrollment, you agree to the terms and conditions and commit to any penalties resulting from your withdrawal or cancellation of classes/courses.

  • Short Classes (1 Day to 8 Weeks):
    • All cancellations made less than 2 business days prior to the start of a short class or less than 3 business days prior to a private lesson are non-refundable.
  • Ongoing Programs (3 to 8 Months):
    • After the start date, all students who withdraw from a program during the 1st month of class will receive a refund of 75% of their total payment. All students who withdraw during the 2nd months of class will receive a 60% refund. NO REFUNDS WILL BE GRANTED to students who withdraw after the end of the 2nd month of class.

Make-up Policy

We don't offer make-up classes, but the student is able to go over what was missed in the missed class in their next class. If the student needs more time, they are able to book a private lesson with the provider to further go over what was missed.
