Class Description

Description

In this workshop we will address the two essential jean alterations: shortening jeans while maintaining the original hem, and taking in the back waist to eliminate gaping.

We will cover things like:

  • Proper techniques for fitting jeans on yourself
  • Shortening jeans while preserving the original hem
  • Taking in the back waist
  • Sewing Darts or Flat Felled Seam
  • Measuring and marking for accurate adjustments
  • Sewing techniques specific to denim

Prerequisites: This class requires recent sewing machine experience — this is not a learn-to-sew class. Students who have taken [Sewing 101] or a private lessons with me tend to be the most prepared, as my teaching style builds the strong foundation for all other classes. That said, if you feel confident, you know yourself best! This note is simply here to make sure you're set up to enjoy every minute — not spend it catching up or unlearning old habits.

What is Included:

  • 6 Hours of Workshop
  • Live demo
  • Use of sewing machines and basic studio tools
  • Practice materials
  • Work time on your actual existing garments
  • Individualized guidance from me

Note: This does not include final garments to alter.

What do you need to bring: Jeans that you want to alter or practice on.

What should I NOT bring:

  • Items in need of repair: this is an alterations class not a mending class.
  • Soiled or dirty items: all items must be clean and freshly laundered
  • no synthetics and no stretch.
