What you'll learn in this improv class:

From sitcoms, to sketch comedy, to Instagram, we love to watch original characters who make us laugh. But how do we write our own unique characters? And what does it take to bring a character from a funny line you thought of, into a character you can embody and perform for years? In this course comedian, writer, and 2020 CBS Comedy Showcase alum Tessa Skara, teaches you how to take your everyday observations, personal experiences, and downright silly ideas and turn them into characters with flair and specificity that you can use again and again. Through this workshop, we’ll go over the basics of making a character, prompts to bring out the best characters in you, and how to show off your character in monologues of varying length, and, eventually, sketches.

Prerequisite: Some performance or comedy background (improv, sketch, stand up, acting) is preferred, but you can get by without it. You do however, need to be ready to write, memorize, and perform monologues and sketches every week.

Note: Class may end between 9:00-9:30 PM EST depending on # of enrollments in class.

Class Show: TBD after final class.

Where: Online on ZOOM. All students need is a strong internet connection and a distraction-free space for the duration of the session.
