Get ahead in computer science this summer by learning both Java and Python, two of the most in-demand programming languages in the world.
This four-week intensive is designed to give students a deep, practical grounding in software development fundamentals. The curriculum is split into two sections, each built around a substantial series of activities, projects, and coding challenges that keep students actively building throughout the program.
Part 1: Java and Computer Science
Students learn Java, a high-level, object-oriented programming language that teaches transferable concepts applicable across nearly every area of software development. Topics covered include object-oriented programming principles and recursion. This section also serves as thorough preparation for the AP Computer Science A Exam.
Part 2: Python and Data Science
The second half of the program shifts to Python, beginning with the language fundamentals and expanding into data science applications. Python's mathematical grounding gives students a natural entry point into data visualization, analysis of complex data sets, and the core principles that underpin modern data science and machine learning workflows.
Prerequisites and Ages: This program is designed for high school students with a genuine interest in coding. No prior programming experience is required, though students should be comfortable using a computer. This course is well-suited to teens with interests in coding, finance, journalism, marketing, or communications.
