What you'll learn in this metal working class:

This 2 hour intro workshop offers a unique opportunity to laymen to experience the hot steel forging process first hand. In this introduction to knife making and forging, students will learn proper tool use and shop safety, as well as the principles of design and fabrication of the forged blade and other projects in steel.

The class format is both lecture and demonstration, however students will be able to get some hands on practice at the end of class. Students will also receive handouts detailing how to register for the full blade forging class where you will forge your own knife or sword at the Fire Arts Center of Chicago.

Please note:

Students should complete their classes within a year of purchase.

Although the building has a Costner Ave address, the mail slot parking and entrance to the building is around the corner on the Cortland side.

The schedulers forgot to schedule the class and apparently the time was wrong on the class offering. Even if the class was scheduled, we would’ve been an hour late due to this error. From what we were told, this has happened before.

Got there a bit early and was able to talk to both Jake and Vince. Vince did the class and answered my questions no matter how basic. I got lucky and got some hands on, don’t know if this always happens. Great overall experience and I actually learned something. Good intro, interested to take more classes.
